Big John

The kids and I were bored, so with poppy's help we made a friend...

I need some extra help around here, so I told Sissy to make sure he had BIG muscles.

This is Big John. He's in charge of the gardening.

Well, quit just standing around! Get to work Big John!

I wonder if I can get him to clean out the chicken coop later?

  2. Great scarecrow! I love making them. They add so much to the garden and are so much fun.

  3. Stephen,
It is so funny that you mention that! Every time I caught a glance of him out of my peripheral vison he startled me! I was walking passed the garden and it bout jumped out of my skin! lol

  4. I am impressed by John's extremely small waist. He must be in good shape. Nice garden.

  5. Awesome! I am so envious of your early gardening ability. Here in NY, it would be JUST about time to plant, IF I had time to get the garden tilled. Sometimes, because my husband is NOT into gardening, chickens, etc. I feel like I am fighting an uphill battle, because I either have to do everything myself, or wait until I can guilt him into helping me. Like tilling my garden!

  6. Callie,
Thanks. This is our first one and it was a ton of fun making him. I am thinking that he needs a face though.

    Gabe,
Thank You. Big John is very fit! I mean look at those biceps!

    Dog Hair in my Coffe,
I understand completely! Last year I had a hard time using the tiller because it was a dual rear tine tiller. I had a real hard time controlling it. We are using my parents tiller this year which is counter rotating tiller which should be a little easier to control. Now with that said my husband broke the garden and my dad tilled it up the last time but ever since then it was been too wet to get it back in there with it. I am hoping to be able to do more of the tilling this year as my husband works out of town most of the week. I have to say as far as getting help I am pretty lucky. He loves being outside "doing" as much as I do. Have you thought about doing raised beds instead? We have four and I love them! They are so easy to take care of, unless you do what I did and add horse manure to it... then you have a lot of weeds pop up. Thank God I only did it to one of them! :)

  7. I think you're right Leigh.....you got a give Big John some eyes. And of course, he'll need a mouth also. It's the eyes that animals look at to judge their enemy. You know, "never look them in the eye"! So I think definitely he needs eyes.
