No Elephants Allowed!

I was tripping over Milo the barn cat who insist on doing a figure eight between my feet while I walk and also attempting to make it through the gate without Jasmine trying to squeeze out behind me. I glanced into the backyard trying to plan my next strategic move to get into the second fence undetected by the barking dogs. I looked around the property at the various animals and children running about and thought, "This place is a zoo"!

As I was walking through the second fence I noticed Sammy Ray Toby and Apple Sauce peacefully basking in the spring sunlight together. Serenity swept over me... I thought to myself, "At times it does get a little chaotic around here between the animals and kids and sometimes it really does feel like a zoo but who doesn't love the zoo!?". I sighed graciously with a smile... But just as the gentle air from my sigh was slipping between my lips, I stepped in huge steaming pile of dog shit... and at that moment I shook my head and mumbled, "No way in hell is this zoo ever getting an elephant"...

  1. TWO goats? Yay! Your life, minus the goats, is the same animal zoo I live with. I have 4 dogs, 7untillastweek-now6 cats, 7 chickens currently with 20+ more coming in May, and I'm hoping to get fiber rabbits and bees to add to the mix. At times I wonder why I do it - because between the dog crap, chicken shit in the driveway, cat barf, and my propensity to run late for work every morning, I'm not really sure WHY I feel the need for all the animals (oh, and the 4 kids I own, and all THEIR friends) but at this point, I just know I couldn't do it any other way, and despite the chaos, could not live without any of them. I DO applaud your decision NOT to add an elephant though. But how do you feel about llamas? :)

  5. I sometimes wonder why I do it as well... the truth is, it is because I love every second of their company... minus the land mines laying about in the yard. I find that life as time goes by and the youngsters grow I am becoming a little better equipt to handle the chaos. Its all worth it.

John, There is much debate about how Apple Sauce got her name but I believe it started when we were discussing the crazy cat that just "moved in". My daughter added her two cents by remarking, "thats some crazy Apple Sauce". Ya just got to love the pg 13 name calling that kids do, (beats what I mumble under my breath about Hannah). After that the name stuck "Crazy Apple Sauce", which we have since shortened to just "Apple Sauce". Its funny to listen to the vets office call, "Yes, this is the Clinic, Aaaaaappppple (questionable pause) Sauce? has an appointment tomorrow at noon" I should also say that my daughter named the pony we once had "Goose", Pretty boy was "Moose" and we fostered an orphaned baby opossume whom she called "Chimp"... I dont know whats up with the names! ;) She is getting better at picking the names out though because she is the one who named Jessica.
